What To Do (and Not Do) After an Arrest

February 3, 2025 · 4 min read

Being charged with a crime is jarring under any circumstances. The choices you make in the first hours matter enormously.

Do not talk to the police. You have the right to remain silent and the right to counsel. Politely decline to answer questions and ask to speak with an attorney.

Do not try to explain your way out of the situation. Well-intentioned statements are often used against defendants later. Let your lawyer speak for you.

Call an attorney as soon as possible. The first call you make can shape the entire case. Our defense team includes former public defenders who know how prosecutors build cases — and how to dismantle them.
